The road to Jeremie - Monday, September 22nd

We are in Jeremie, Haiti!
Oh, how I have missed this place!
The past two years when we
visited, we stayed in Port au Price with Petouchka at Eveline's creche and it was our home away from home.
I haven't been to Jeremie in 2 years and I have really missed it!

We drove here with Yvrose and Ronald yesterday and, after a delicious meal in Les Cayes, we finally made it in around 2am. (My apologies to all of our friends in Cayes that we didn't get to visit but it was late and we were on our way to Jeremie... perhaps we can stop on the return trip.)

When we drove into the streets of Jeremie at 2am, it was as if someone has taken a giant vacuum sweeper and cleaned up all the noisy traffic, animated people, makeshift shops, burlap bags spread out with oranges and breadfruit for sale, baskets of soap in little baggies, and even the piles of trash. It was like a ghost town... in fact the only living thing on the streets was one lonely dog.

We were given the guest house to use. It is very nice with the bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a sitting roomworth electricity, running water, showers, a clean water dispenser, and a refrigerator.

We were tired and slept hard, at least until an almost 10 year old woke me and I happily obliged to get up. :-)  We all showered before breakfast with Yvrose and then had a tour of the schools and visited. We had a chance to call home and talk to Ben, Simon, and Heidi (who weren't terribly happy that they couldn't join us on this trip) and enjoyed talking with them. I even caught a much needed short nap!

We had a delicious dinnerf of white fish, blam (bread fruit), rice and beans. We visited some more and then surprised the kids with gifts and pop corn. It has been a wonderful day!!!
