We have arrived!

We have arrived.  The airport was a bit chaotic with a whole plane load of passengers, Haitian porters, and others all crammed around the baggage carousel patiently waiting for the luggage to arrive.  After getting our stuff, we located our drivers and made the trip back to the orphanage.

Driving in Port-au-Prince isn't something I would ever want to do.  It makes driving in Boston look tame.  Lanes come and go as needed.  Someone too slow?  Make a lane and go around.  I would never have been able to figure out how to get back to where we started.

We met Petoucheca right when we arrived.   She had on a very pretty dress to meet us.  She was happy to see Shelby again.  Not too sure what to make of Ben and Simon.  She warmed up to Heidi quickly.

Later in the evening we played with a bunch of the kids.  Balloons were the entertainment for the evening.  We bounced them back and forth until they met an unfortunate and loud demised.

Ben found some breadfruit from the breadfruit trees that are growing in the orpanage.

We all the other kids who live here including this little girl, Mary Grace, who was abandoned.

Today we were awoken by roosters on the roof of the next building.  It is a much warmer day today with the highs in lower 90's.  Our kids are certain they are going to melt.  The other kids haven't even noticed.

I like Eveline.  We talked for quite awhile last night.  Many of her children have been adopted to families in France.  I think that we are one of the first to come to the US in awhile.

I have been mobbed by all kinds of kids.  The children are fascinated with cameras and photos.  Every time I try to look for pics to upload, I have six kids who stop me so they can look at all the pictures we have taken.  Most of the time one of the Haitian kids are running around with one of the cameras we brought.

  1. Glad you are all safe and getting settled. We are VERY comfortable at your house and we finished up all the leftovers in the fridge this eve. That little Mary Grace looks good on you.
